Greetings, Franklin Families!

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year at our Franklin Academy Pembroke Pines K-8 campus! We are so excited to be your Elementary Specials teachers again this year and have great things in store to make this school year extra “special”! Here’s a short synopsis of what’s going on the first quarter in specials:

We can’t wait to dive into our fun & exciting Specials subjects this year!

Coach Sasso, Mrs. Vallavanti, Mrs. Soto, Ms. Deacon, Mrs. Swann & Mr. Rosado

We start off our school year off with the first art fundraiser of the year: Square 1 Art! Each grade level will be introduced to an artist, art inspiration and project to have fun with and express their creativity!

  • Kindergarten – The art of Vincent van Gogh’s flowers
  • First Grade – “The Scream” by Edvard Munch
  • Second Grade – The art of Keith Haring
  • Third Grade – Andy Warhol & pop art
  • Fourth Grade – Robert Indiana’s “LOVE” sculpture
  • Fifth Grade – Roy Lichtenstein & comic book pop art

Students will receive FREE stickers of their artwork. Additional items can be ordered with the artwork made by your student printed on them once they receive their stickers & catalog complete with inventory and prices. These orderable treasures make great holiday gifts and remember that our school receives a percentage of the order back to the art department!! Thank you in advance for supporting our school & arts programs! We have many other exciting projects & activities planned this year such as:

Experimenting with different art materials & techniques, a family art night and our end-of-the-year Multicultural Art & Talent Show complete with an Art Scavenger Hunt! Here are a few photos from last year’s show.

Third grade will be using recorders in 2nd quarter. If you haven’t purchased your recorder, Franklin will be selling recorders for $8. Please e-mail me for further details.

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! I will be your returning chess teacher, Mr. Rosado. This is my 2nd year teaching and I have been playing Chess for the past 7 years.

All new students will begin by learning each of the pieces, their function and how to utilize them in a game. For all returning students, they will continue to learn strategies and procedures to beat their opponents as well as have the opportunity to compete in several of our chess tournaments throughout the school year.

Looking forward to an amazing school year and lots of great chess matches,

Mr. Rosado

To begin, students have been learning the alphabet in Spanish, the letter sounds, and developing their phonemic awareness in Spanish.

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated every year from September 15 through October 15. So, this quarter, students will also be learning about the geography, the cultures and contributions of the Hispanic world. They will be exposed to a variety of activities that involve students in creating glossaries, reading and writing folktales, dancing, singing, and doing arts and crafts that are popular in Hispanic cultures.

Please, encourage your child to tell you the new words and songs they have learned in class. It will be a lot of fun! Plan on attending Franklin’s first annual Hispanic Heritage event on Tuesday, October 16th at 6 PM at our Franklin Academy PP K-8 campus!!

See you there!

Mrs. Vallavanti
